All of this is aimed at offering collaborative developments that solve the major technological challenges currently facing us, which would be impossible to address without cooperation between the parties.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, with<strong> Hympulso<\/strong>, is jointly developing hydrogen fueling facilities adapted to railways\u2014both mobile and fixed\u2014and a pioneering prototype of a hybrid bimodal passenger train with a change of gauge, which can run interchangeably on conventional and high-speed networks, using power from overhead lines, or hydrogen and\/or batteries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This comprehensive development is carried out through a dual approach: through innovation in those areas of the chain that provide the greatest value; and ensuring, in this process, the <strong>effective collaboration between relevant actors<\/strong> The project is represented by the consortium&#039;s eight partners and three collaborators, with very diverse origins and sizes. Thus, the project includes large companies, SMEs, public entities, universities, and technology centers. These actors come from areas of the value chain as diverse as hydrogen production, storage and supply, the design, manufacture, and maintenance of railway rolling stock, the development of high-power equipment, additive manufacturing for weight reduction and efficiency improvements, and railway infrastructure management.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of this project is to develop the industry and local knowledge regarding the application of hydrogen to rail mobility, while also overcoming the barriers that currently delay the transition to clean rail mobility based on renewable hydrogen. To name a few, the barriers the consortium will address are: safety in hydrogen management and daily operations, lack of long-term experience, availability of rail-ready infrastructure, efficiency of key equipment, absence of a specific applicable regulatory framework, lack of a green hydrogen supply, and dependence on a few equipment suppliers, mostly foreign.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hympulso addresses mobility challenges by working across the three main levels of the hydrogen value chain: production, storage and supply, and the use of renewable hydrogen in rail mobility. Additionally, this project places a strong emphasis on activities across these levels of the chain: the management of hydrogen fueling infrastructure adapted to the train; the design and manufacture of a prototype train; and daily operations affecting issues such as recharging safety, operation, and maintenance activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final objective of the project aims to <strong>offer an integrated solution for hydrogen rail mobility<\/strong>, combining refueling, train, and management solutions; and replacing diesel-powered trains, it becomes the mode of transport with the lowest environmental impact, with zero emissions, and without the need for costly investments to electrify the rail network. This will be especially attractive as a measure to promote social cohesion and revitalize the economies of regions with low population density, which typically have non-electrified networks and rely on the use of diesel trains.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The partners participating in this project are Talgo, Golendus, Ingeteam, Optimus 3D, Repsol, and Sener. The Tecnalia Foundation and Comillas University are collaborating.
