Reducing CO₂ emissions in Zaragoza's public transport by incorporating buses powered by renewable hydrogen, contributing to decarbonization and innovation in sustainable mobility.
Vision
To consolidate mobility with renewable hydrogen as a real and efficient alternative in public transport, positioning Zaragoza and Aragon as benchmarks in the energy transition and the reduction of emissions.
Since February 2024, Zaragoza has had the first regular renewable hydrogen bus line in Aragon, connecting the city with its airport. The project relies on a mobile hydrogen refueling station located at the El Cisne I service station (Zoilo Ríos Group), owned by Repsol, which supplies renewable hydrogen. This pioneering facility allows fuel cell vehicles to be refueled and represents a significant step forward in the decarbonization of transportation.
The initiative, promoted by the Zaragoza Transport Consortium and operated by Ágreda Bus (ALSA Group), has the collaboration of Repsol and Zoilo Ríos, SA. Thanks to this project, some 135 tons of CO₂ will be avoided annually, replacing fossil fuels with renewable hydrogen.
Repsol's mobile hydrogen refueling station is designed to adapt to different environments and needs, facilitating the expansion of hydrogen-powered mobility in other logistics and industrial corridors. This project contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in climate action, affordable and clean energy, innovation and infrastructure, and partnerships for the goals.
