NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC) It is a joint venture A consortium formed by ACWA Power, Air Products, and NEOM is building the world's largest green hydrogen production plant powered by renewable energy. This mega-plant will produce up to 600 tons of carbon-free hydrogen per day in the form of green ammonia, a cost-effective solution for the transportation and industrial sectors worldwide.
This project is based on proven technologies, and its innovative aspects include the large-scale integration of these technologies and the use of ammonia to transport hydrogen to markets worldwide. This project will save the world approximately five million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.
Air Products is primarily responsible for engineering, procurement and construction and systems integration, as well as the exclusive purchaser of green hydrogen produced in the form of green ammonia at the NGHC facility.
How is green hydrogen obtained?
Green hydrogen is produced by water electrolysis using only renewable energy sources: solar and wind. The economic viability of green hydrogen production depends heavily on the cost of electricity. Saudi Arabia is an ideal location for the NEOM Green Hydrogen Complex megaproject, thanks to the abundance of sun and wind in the region. The NGHC will be used for the direct transfer of green hydrogen to tankers, in a strategic location for international shipping routes.
