Zoilo Ríos Group: ECOASIS

Mission

To offer a self-sufficient and ecological alternative to traditional service stations, facilitating the consolidation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and promoting the use of green hydrogen, especially in isolated locations or those far from the electricity grid.

Vision

To be a benchmark in innovation for sustainable mobility, demonstrating that ultra-fast, high-performance charging based on renewable energy and green hydrogen is possible, without the need for connection to the electrical grid.

ECOASIS It is the first ultra-fast electric vehicle charging station in Spain that operates independently, without needing to be connected to the electrical grid. Developed by CIRCUTOR and the Zoilo Ríos Group, with the collaboration of the CIRCE technology center, this project integrates photovoltaic solar energy, battery storage, green hydrogen, and high-power chargers into a single system, offering a pioneering solution for sustainable mobility, even in isolated environments.

The station, already operational at the El Cisne Service Station (Zaragoza), combines a photovoltaic canopy with 220 solar modules (60.5 kWp), a 500 kWh battery system, a green hydrogen fuel cell with high-pressure storage, and two 150 kW ultra-fast chargers. This hybrid energy architecture guarantees recharging availability at all times, reduces dependence on the grid, and contributes to the decarbonization of transportation.

ECOASIS not only reinforces the charging infrastructure in critical or remote locations, but also marks a milestone in the energy transition by demonstrating that high-performance electric mobility based on renewable energy and green hydrogen is possible, with the support of the MOVES Singular Projects II program funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

Innovation and differentiation ECOASIS introduces a technological breakthrough in the charging station model by offering ultra-fast charging without a connection to the electrical grid. Its main innovative value lies in the integration of complementary energy technologies into a single system: photovoltaics, battery storage, green hydrogen, and high-power chargers.

Innovative elements:

  • Use of SiC (Silicon Carbide) based converters for greater efficiency and smaller size/cost.
  • DC power interconnection directly to the battery, reducing converters and improving efficiency.
  • Use of hydrogen fuel cells as an alternative zero-emission energy source.
  • Optimization algorithms that integrate weather and usage forecasts for autonomous decision-making.
  • Modularity and scalability to adapt to different needs.
  • Application of ICT best practices: CAN protocol, REST APIs, microservices and cloud connection for efficient analysis and management.

Environmental, social and economic impact

  • Environmental: It contributes to the decarbonization of transport, with an estimated production of 96,100 kWh/year of photovoltaic energy and a saving of 27.1 tons of CO₂/year compared to a grid-connected station.
  • Social: It offers an accessible and high-performance charging service, generates confidence in electric mobility and reinforces Aragon's position as a technological hub for clean energy.
  • Economic: It fosters business opportunities, mobilizes private investment, and has European support. Its scalable and replicable design allows it to be extended to rural, industrial, or logistics environments, promoting territorial cohesion and the creation of quality jobs.

Alliances and institutional support ECOASIS is the result of an exemplary public-private collaboration between CIRCUTOR, Grupo Zoilo Ríos, and CIRCE, with institutional support from the Government of Aragon, the Zaragoza City Council, AESAR, and CLENAR. The project is part of the MOVES Singular Projects II program, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
